When you rent a car and explore Kefalonia, sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees. Or do you want to do business with someone, but above all, end up in a safe haven? The locals know their way around like no other and are happy to share their knowledge with visitors to the island. What do they think are the 10 most beautiful viewpoints in Kefalonia?
Time for an investigation by our panel. Our panel consists of eight people, man and woman, young and old, all living (since recently or for life) in different locations in Kefalonia and are fond of photography or simply enjoy life. Criteria on the basis of which we have compiled our top 10 are:

After comparing the reviews within our panel, we have arrived at the following top 10 Most Beautiful Viewpoints:
1. Mount Ainos (8.4) 30 kilometers away is the highest mountain of the Ionian Islands, with a height of 1,628 meters, Mount Ainos. From a unique pine forest, on a clear day it is possible to see the Peloponnese, Ithaka, Lefkada and Zakynthos in the distance. Explore the National Park's trails, lakes, caves and famous wild horses. You can drive to the top of the mountain by car and park on site. The absolute top is about a 2 kilometer walk from the parking lot.
2. Myrtos Beach (8.3) Surrounded by high marble cliffs and overlooking the azure waters of the Gulf of Myrtos, this beautiful beach makes for a dramatic, breathtaking sight. Get there early to secure both a parking spot and a prime spot on the beach; the water is also calmest in the morning. There are changing rooms and toilet facilities, a beach bar and some sunbeds and parasols that you can rent.
3. The Bosset Bridge (8.2) The longest overseas stone bridge in the world is the Bosset Bridge, or the Drapano Bridge. Built in 1813 as a wooden bridge, the aim at the time was to make Argostoli more accessible. On a sultry summer evening, the bridge is a romantic attraction and many use the beautifully illuminated bridge for a nice walk.
4. Assos Viewpoint (8.2) Just a few minutes from the beautiful beach of Myrtos lies Assos, one of Kefalonia's most picturesque and photographed villages. Framed by lush vegetation and turquoise waters, Assos is a haven for those seeking relaxation and tranquility. While retaining traditional Kephalonian architecture, modern elements create a sense of timeless elegance and distinctly Ionian flair. Houses painted with bright colors give a glowing image and imitate a colorful painting of exceptional beauty. On top of the opposite hill, the ruins of an ancient Venetian castle offer spectacular views over the island and create a feeling of an eternal journey through time.
5. Paralia Petani (7.9) Petani is a beautiful Kefalonia beach located on the beautiful Paliki peninsula, near Lixouri. It consists of blue crystal clear waters and a breathtaking landscape of huge green cliffs reaching down to the blue sea. The water immediately becomes deeper and there are usually big waves in Petani.
6. The Tower of Light of Saint Theodore (7,8) Just a few kilometers from Argostoli you will find one of Kefalonia's most famous trademarks, the Lighthouse of Saint Theodore. Located on a landscaped promontory, Saint Theodore Lighthouse is the ultimate spot for romantic moments and breathtaking photos.
7. The Light Tower of Gerogompos (7,8) Crossing the road outside Havriata you come to a lighthouse of worldwide significance, built in the early 20th century on an otherwise barren strip of land. Cape Gerogompos is just a few kilometers away. The Gerogompos Lighthouse, built by British engineers in 1907, proved crucial during World War II. It was rebuilt in 1947 after it was completely destroyed by German soldiers upon their departure from the island. The height of the tower is 13 meters and the light spreads over a distance of 58 meters. In the past it belonged to the Hellenic Navy and access was limited, but currently it functions automatically.
8. Chiesa Bell Viewing Point (7.7) This viewpoint, located in Kourouklata near Farsa, is not known to the general public, but provides an unprecedentedly beautiful view over the bay of Argostoli and the Paliki peninsula. The point consists of an old church tower that was demolished by the 2014 earthquake and is on display here. There are benches available that have amazing views.
9. Antisamos Viewpoint (7.6) Antisamos Beach is perhaps one of the most favorable destinations for swimming and sunbathing in Kefalonia. It is located 30.6 km east of Argostoli and quite close to the port of Sami. Antisamos stands out for its natural beauty consisting of turquoise waters and a beautiful setting of green hills and lush vegetation on top. It is this breathtaking landscape that characterizes this area and captivates all visitors. Antisamos gained a worldwide reputation through the Hollywood film Captain Corelli's Mandolin, where several scenes were shot there. The beach is easily accessible from a coastal road in Sami.
10. The Sink Holes of Argostoli (7.2) The fascinating sinkholes (Katavothres) of Argostoli are one of the most impressive sites in all of Kefalonia. Truly one of the most stunning geological phenomena on earth, the spectacle was originated by a current connecting the sinkholes of Argostoli with the springs of Karavomilos in Sami and the lagoon of Lake Melissani.
